Every co-op is different! Being part of our salon co-op means everybody takes ownership of the salon’s financial health and overall functionality. Our horizontal approach to leadership utilizes committees to accomplish tasks and maintain everyday operations.
Members are guaranteed a healthy work environment including but not limited to:
- Equitable profit-sharing among members
- Financial transparency
- Rotating leadership and group decision making
- Clear expectations, onboarding and exit policies defined in cooperative bylaws which are reviewed annually
- Clear conflict resolution plans
- Opportunities to engage in meaningful community engagement including mutual aid drives and pay it forward programs
- Sustainable, eco-conscious and gender-inclusive beauty services for all people
- Skill sharing workshops within Mayday as well as the broader community of stylists
- Equitable and accessible apprenticeship or mentorship programs
- Democratic member control. Every member of Mayday participates in setting policies and making decisions.
- Cooperatives are autonomous, self-help organizations controlled by their members. If they enter into agreements with other organizations, including governments, or raise capital from external sources, they do so on terms that ensure democratic control as well as their unique identity.
